SAVING LIVES IN THE SALIMA AND DOWA DISTRICTS
2,000 vulnerable households in the districts Salima (T/A Mkukulu) and Dowa (T/A Mwanza, Maganga and Karonga) received funds from DanChurchAid over a two month period to enable them to buy food or invest the money to reduce the effects of the drought that hit large parts of Malawi with brutal force.

The emergency relief targeted female and child headed households, persons with disabilities, elderly persons, people living with HIV, orphans, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers and was implemented by the Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM). To minimize the risk of being robbed the beneficiaries received the funds as electronic money. They were registered at a phone company, got SIM cards and cell phones. The beneficiaries are now able to convert the electronic money into cash at any authorized agent using their mobile phones.
